Symposium on food quality & safety during Haj opened

MAKKAH — A symposium on the "quality and safety of food during the Haj season" was opened in Makkah on Wednesday to discuss the best methods of ensuring hygiene and cleanliness of the food being served to the pilgrims.

The symposium was organized by the Makkah municipality under the sponsorship of the Deputy Emir of Makkah Prince Abdullah Bin Bandar.

Mayor Osama Albar stressed the importance of providing the guests of God with safe and hygienic food and said all the concerned government and private establishments were making strenuous efforts to ensure the safety of food provided to the guests of God.

"The Kingdom's leadership and people are determined to extend the best of services to the pilgrims including hygienic food," he said. "The good food of high quality is a vital element in preserving the general health of the pilgrims," he added.

The mayor said the municipality and the other concerned bodies are doing their best to provide the guests of God with consummate services including good and safe meals.

Prince Abdullah honored a number of distinguished individuals and companies for extending outstanding services to the pilgrims and said all the concerned government and private sectors are exerting concerted efforts to make the pilgrimage comfortable.

A number of participants from the Saudi Quality Council, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and companies providing services to the pilgrims presented working papers on the issue.

They were all unanimous on the importance of providing hygienic food to the pilgrims to enable them maintain good health during the entire Haj season.
