Eng. Abdullah Al-Hazmi, director of the operations and control center of the Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC), revealed a number of modern technologies and advanced technical means being used in Makkah and other holy places to avoid overcrowding during the Hajj season.

He praised the national cadres’ ability to manage and operate the electrical system and to implement the operational plan at the holy sites in accordance with the highest level of efficiency under the slogan “We work diligently for the guests of Allah.”

Al-Hazmi said SEC experts and engineers have succeeded in applying fiber optic technology, a technology that is being used for the first time which has helped to avoid congestion and crowding between the camps and allowed the rapid transfer of information from the site of the malfunctions to the main operation centers.

He said the technology represents a quantum leap in the efforts of the company’s engineers and experts to quickly deal with emergency faults and to restore service to the customers.

He pointed out that the preventive and regular maintenance programs implemented by the company contributed to the reliability of the electrical network, especially with providing generating capacities that exceed the maximum expected loads.

The generation capacity available to serve the pilgrims has increased this year to 21,948 megawatts compared to 20,123 megawatts last season.

He said the company also applies the automated field teams management system (FFMS), which provides continuous follow-up of the field work in Makkah and Madinah.

He praised the role of national cadres for managing and operating these specialized technical teams within the electric operational plan during the Hajj according to the highest level of efficiency.

The percentage of labor localization in the company has exceeded 90 percent, and the Saudi engineers and technicians have proven high efficiency in the field of electric power industry.

The main operation and control center of the SEC in the holy places has a group of the best Saudi experts and engineers.
