Jeddah airport ready to serve 10m Umrah pilgrims

JEDDAH — King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah has completed all arrival and departure arrangements for more than 10 million Umrah pilgrims during the season which began on Saturday and will continue until Shawwal 18, 1439H (July 2, 2018).

The airport’s accommodation capacity is 1,800 arriving passengers an hour and 1,700 departing passengers.

The management said pilgrims will be served by representatives of about 27 government and private establishments.

According to Turki Bin Maalawi Al-Dheeb, director of information and public relations of the KAIA, pilgrims will be using seven lounges for arrival and an equal number of lounges for departure. “All government and private sector establishments working in the airport and the Haj Terminal are ready for the Umrah season and are prepared to render the best services to pilgrims,” he added.

The Haj Terminal of the airport has a total area of 510,000 square meters consisting of the eastern lounges which have an area of 90,000 square meters and an open area (the eastern plaza) which has an area of 160,000 square meters.

The terminal has 26 parking bays for the aircraft, 10 mobile bridges, two operation centers, 18 departure gates, 14 lounges for pilgrims, 254 travel counters, 143 passport processing counters.

The terminal has a hotel with 123 rooms, a chain of restaurants, shops, 32 toilets and 40 prayer areas.
