Hajj: Lagos begins medical screening for intending pilgrims

Wednesday, June 27, 2018

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has commenced medical screening for intending pilgrims for the 2018 Hajj.

Mr Abdulrahman Ishola, the Secretary to the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos.

Ishola said that the exercise would provide an opportunity to vaccinate the intending pilgrims against polio and yellow fever.

He said the intending pilgrims would also be given accurate prescription after undergoing medical screening at designated hospitals.

“This exercise which commenced on June 25 to end on July 2, will cover all the local government areas in the state.

“We will help to vaccinate the intending pilgrims against polio, yellow fever, and other ailments that can affect them while in the Holy land.

“The medical doctors will also prescribe appropriate drugs for the intending pilgrims during the screening,” he said.

The secretary said that the screening would also certify the mental and physical alertness of the intending pilgrims.

He added that it would also help to wade off illnesses that could affect their Hajj rites.

“The screening is to certify that the intending pilgrims are physically and mentally fit for the Hajj.

“This will help prevent any unusual illnesses that may prevent the pilgrims from carrying out the fundamental Hajj rites, ” he said.

Ishola assured the intending pilgrims that the state government would ensure a hitch-free Hajj.

He urged local government coordinators to enlighten their intending pilgrims about the right attitude during and after hajj.

“We have also scheduled a two-day seminar for July 14 and 15 to prepare the intending pilgrims for the challenges of hajj,” he said.
