Garuda Indonesia offers five-star facilities for ‘umrah’

Garuda Indonesia’s Makassar office in South Sulawesi is taking part in this year’s Islamic Tourism Expo, held on July 5 to 6 at the Claro Makassar hotel. The national flag carrier is offering five-star facilities at a special price for passengers going on umrah(minor haj).

Garuda’s vice president for Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua, I Wayan Supatrayasa, was quoted by tempo.co on Thursday as saying, “We are giving special facilities to passengers who depart to the Middle East, particularly those who are going on umrah.”

Wayan went on to say that Garuda provided halal food and drink on umrah flights. Legroom in the cabin would be spacious, while passengers would be provided with a 30- kilogram check-in baggage limit, 5 liters of zamzam water and audio video on demand (AVOD) with LCD touch screens.

An Airbus A330-300 with a capacity of 322 seats is the type of aircraft used by Garuda to serve the direct Makassar-Jeddah route every Thursday and Saturday.

Thursday flights depart from Makassar at 7:15 a.m. and arrive in Jeddah at 4:25 p.m. Meanwhile, flights from Jeddah depart at 6:25 p.m. and arrive at 1:25 p.m.

Speaking of Saturday flights, departure from Makassar is at 6:45 a.m. and arrival in Jeddah is at 3:55 p.m. The flight back to Makassar departs at 7 p.m. from Jeddah, to arrive at 2:50 p.m.

Moreover, Garuda will also serve a direct route from Makassar to Madinah once a week, starting November.
