JEDDAH: Prince Abdullah bin Bandar, deputy governor of Makkah, officially opened the welcome and reception center for pilgrims in Al-Nawariyah on the Makkah-Madinah highway on Tuesday.

The center was built to ease the passage of pilgrims from and to Makkah and reduce the waiting time for buses.

Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, governor of Makkah, approved the final designs for the project.

Work was completed on the project, which occupies an area of an area of about 539,000 square meters, in 75 days.

It features five buildings dedicated to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Hadiyah, Hajji and Mu’tamer’s Gift Charitable Association, and the General Federation of Cars and Drivers. The center has the capacity to receive 300 buses an hour.

The initiative was sparked by the visit of Prince Abdullah to a number of sorting centers at the entrances to the holy capital last year. At the end of his trip, he ordered an upgrade of reception and departure centers to streamline the process for pilgrims.

A similar center is set to be constructed in Al-Shimaisi during the upcoming period.
