International Dates City coming up in Madinah

MADINAH – An International Dates City with integrated services will be established in Madinah. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has invited bids from businessmen to make investments in the establishment and development of the world-class city project, located 7 km south of the Prophet’s Mosque and 17 km from Prince Muhammad International Airport, is close to several souks and can have access through King Abdullah Ring Road, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The city, spreading over an area covering 1,089,441 sq. meters, will be a local and international destination for the trade, manufacturing and export of dates of Saudi Arabia to various parts of the world, the ministry said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The project aims to support the trade, manufacture and export of dates from Madinah and other cities, and upgrade the operational capacity of date manufacturing industries, including the use of remnants of palm in manufacturing industries with an investment return and create jobs for the citizens of the region.

The city project is also expected to take advantage of the status and distinction of the dates of the Kingdom in general and that of Madinah in particular, in a way spurring economic growth and boosting domestic spending.

The ministry asked interested investors to submit their quotations before July 16.
