Hajj is getting expensive in the year 2020, as pilgrims to Makkah would have to pay over Rs. 500,000 to perform the pilgrimage. Recommendations have been sent by the religious ministry in the Hajj police in 2020 to the formulation committee.

Once it is passed by the formulation committee, the policy will be presented in the federal cabinet for approval.

No consensus has been reached even though the committee had several meetings.

Ministry of Religious Affairs sources has revealed that the government is trying to secure a subsidy of up to Rs 40,000 per person on Hajj expenses. If this subsidy is approved then the Hajj cost will be reduced to Rs 380,000.

Back in 2018, the Hajj expenses for the northern and southern regions of Pakistan were Rs. 280,000 and Rs. 270,000 respectively. Also, Rs. 13,050 were separately charged for sacrificing an animal on Eid. In the same year, the Hajj quota for Pakistani pilgrims for 2019 was increased by Saudi Arabia by 5000.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs of Pakistan Ali Haider Zaidi, hinted to start a ship service to provide economical transport facility to the pilgrims who are going to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah.
