State Minister for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Md Abdullah has said as a precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has temporarily ceased issuing visa for Umrah. Although that ban may be lifted soon, there may not be enough time to perform Hajj because that takes at least 2 months’ worth of preparation.

He urged everyone planning to perform Hajj to deposit the necessary payments with time in hand.

The minister said, “The Hajj will be held on July 30 this year in accordance to moon sightings. Hajj flights will commence on June 23. Those interested should register by the 15th of March.”

He expressed support for those willing to perform Hajj despite concerns surrounding the spread of coronavirus.

In reply to queries from reporters he said, “As of now, 725 people have registered for Hajj with the government, and a further 848 people have registered privately.”

Sheikh Md Abdullah also added, “As the Minister of State for Religious Affairs, I am taking full responsibility of fully refunding anyone who is unable to perform Hajj due to coronavirus-related concerns. If that person wishes instead to perform Hajj next year, then that option will be available as well.”

Earlier, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had banned foreigners from traveling to Saudi Arabia to complete the Umrah pilgrimage.
