100-bed new coronavirus field hospital in Makkah

The Ministry of Health has set up a 100-bed field hospital to treat coronavirus cases in Makkah. Dr. Wael Mutair, director general of Health Affairs in Makkah region, inspected the new field hospital to review its readiness and preparedness to receive people infected with the deadly virus.

During the inspection tour, Dr. Mutair was accompanied by Dr. Hatem Khoweir, therapeutic assistant director, and Eng. Khaled Al-Thebaiti, assistant director for engineering and projects affairs, the Makkah Health Affairs Department said in a statement.

Hamad Al-Otaibi, spokesman of the Health Department in Makkah, said that the hospital was set up in Kudai neighborhood, which is less than two kilometers from the densely populated undeveloped neighborhoods in Makkah.

The hospital runs with the support and equipment of the General Department of Medical Services at the Ministry of Defense, represented by the Armed Forces Hospitals Department in Taif. The hospital will be operated by trained medical staff from the Health Affairs Department in Makkah region.

The Makkah Health Department appreciated the support of the General Department of Medical Services at the Ministry of Defense for its efforts and quick response, to equip the field hospital.
