Saudi Arabia's is to keep in place a suspension on the Umrah pilgrimage as it eases coronavirus restrictions it announced, as its number of new cases fell for the sixth day in a row.

The Ministry of Umrah and Hajj facilitated the return of as many as 450,000 Umrah performers safely to their countries amid precautionary and preventive measures taken by the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the Kingdom, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah held a video call to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr and exchange greetings with its staff in the presence of Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Mohammed Salih Bentin, his deputy Dr. Abdulfattah bin Sulaiman Mashat and other ministry officials, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

An astronomer at Qatar Calendar House said yesterday the sun will pass directly over the top of the Ka’aba at the Grand Mosque in the holy city of Makkah at 12.18pm local time (9.18 UTC) today - coinciding with the Dhuhr prayer at the mosque - and when it does, the Ka’aba will cast no shadow for a few moments.

Mosques in Saudi Arabia are to reopen for Friday prayers this week as the Kingdom relaxes measures to stop the spread of COVID-19. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs said mosques will be open to the public for the weekly prayers from May 31 until June 20, except in Makkah.
