Hajj 2022 from Algeria: new conditions on the menu

It is after being suspended for two consecutive years due to the sanitary conditions that the world has experienced following the spread of the “Corona” epidemic, that preparations for the new Hajj season have started in Algeria. .

Indeed, the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Regional Planning has put in place the necessary and final measures and provisions for the Hajj ritual, in particular with regard to the preparation of the final lists of future pilgrims. qualified to perform the Hajj for the 2022 season. Thus, a letter was sent on May 1, 2022 to all the walis of the country, including instructions relating to the organization of the Hajj ritual for the current season.

The Minister of Interior, Local Government and Regional Planning has also drawn up the preliminary list of persons qualified for the Hajj ritual, based on the additional lists for the 2019 Hajj season and those for the Hajj season. 2020, while eliminating the cases of death and those whose age exceeds 65 years from June 30, 2022.

To conclude, the instruction limited the final date to set the final lists for each wilaya for today May 5, 2022. And this while putting the ministry during the course of this procedure.

You should know that the quota of Algerian pilgrims, set at 36,000 people in 2019 and to be increased to 41,300 in that of the Hajj season 2020, has finally come down to half. This decision taken by Saudi Arabia and which concerns all countries, aims to facilitate the implementation of means of prevention against the Covid-19 virus and to prevent the influx of pilgrims.

Among the 850,000 foreign pilgrims expected to arrive this year, Algeria ranks 10th in the ranking with a quota of 18,697 hadjis. Indeed, this year, Saudi Arabia will allow one million Muslims, Saudis or from around the world, to participate in the great pilgrimage, which will allow it for the first time since the beginnings of the Covid-19 pandemic to open to those coming from abroad.

Although this reopening has taken place, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj has communicated certain conditions to ensure the safety of these pilgrims. This year, the pilgrimage will only concern vaccinated people under the age of 65. Pilgrims coming from outside Saudi Arabia will be required to submit a negative PCR test within 72 hours.

As a reminder, the kingdom had already announced in early March the lifting of the majority of restrictive measures related to Covid, including social distancing in public places and quarantine for vaccinated newcomers, while masks are now only required. in closed spaces.
