Umrah visa issue nears 1m mark

JEDDAH: The number of Umrah visas issued this year has reached 998,670, of which 695,740 pilgrims have arrived in the Kingdom, according to data provided by the Hajj and Umrah Ministry. There are 294,767 pilgrims still in the Kingdom, with 198,786 in Makkah and 95,981 in Madinah. Most pilgrims — 650,702 — came to the Kingdom by air, while 45,010 entered by land and 28 arrived

Health Ministry encourages Hajj pilgrims to receive immunizations

The Health Ministry today encouraged pilgrims to take influenza and pneumococcal vaccines before leaving to perform Hajj. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the two vaccines would be in addition to the vaccine for meningococcal meningitis, which is a mandatory immunization.

Saudi Arabia Bans Muslims From Israel and Palestine From Mecca

Although the Jewish State and the Gulf Kingdom have no diplomatic ties, Palestinians with Israeli citizenship have been able to perform the hajj, considered compulsory in Islam, using temporary Jordanian passports. Riyadh has eliminated this loophole despite reports about a rapprochement and military cooperation between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
